Soccer Nostradamus..

EPL Week3 warm up thoughts

I owe my views on gameweek 2 fixtures but luckily had a good prediction time with 8 out 10 in line.

Biggest shocker has to be Manchester United against Fulham. Vintage Scholes, early lead and 1st half domination to inspired Fulham performance converting a ManU win to a draw. Highlite has to Nani’s miss penalty. SHOCKER!!

Some news from the midweek: Top 3 English sides (ManU Chelsea Arsenal) get easy Champions league fixture so that should put smiles on their manager’s face. Tottenham after great performance in CL qualifiers over Swiss “Young Boyz” draw Inter Milan.
Funnily enough, Benitaz lost to Athelico in Super Cup with last year “UNBEATABLES”. Mourinho or Special One’s effect. After Liverpool is it Inter’s turn :P.

Jumping to gameweek 3 predictions guys:
Blackburn v Arsenal:  Big Sam Men (Battering Ram and Rugby Ishstyle) to Wenger swift lightning quick crafty boys. Just makes life tough for prediction. Wenger made an astute purchase during midweek Squillaci from Sevilla to boost the backline. Big Sam gets Benjani Mwaruwari and boosts the front line. Walcott was g8 but a pointer and reason he his criticized “in 60th minute Chamakh was unmarked and a simple cross would have led to the goal, Walcott shoots over the bar, its one thing to score against Blackburn and another against Chelsea or International. I will keep my euphoria under wraps.”
Result: Arsenal wins unless they leak one in a set piece. Expect a close game

Blackpool v Fulham: Got a welcome to Big Stage drubbing from Arsenal last week 6-0. Expect Fulham to win unless Blackpool play a little deep. They try and play real football but they ought to thinking about some points.

Chelsea v Stoke City: Chelsea win!!!. Blues are firing on all cylinders. Challenge for ManU is 1st of season “traditionally slow starters” and Chelsea is 2nd half “old legs and few injuries would make them wobbly”

Tottenham v Wigan: Impressive midweek, impressive bale, crouch and defoe. No reason why they wont win by a margin of 2 or 3 J.

Wolves v Newcastle: BenArfa Marseille to Newcastle united. 6-0 routing of Aston Villa last week must have left toons in high spirits. Welcome back toonies. Toons win, Wolves run for shelter.

Man Utd v West Ham: Shrug of craven cottage, devils we are back in “Theature of dreams”. Manchester United win. 2 or 3 goal margin. Expect Rooney to be influential J.

Bolton v Birmingham: Mcleish men have been making life difficult for everyone. Expect that to continue. They play in “Phalanx” and are tough to break. Expect a close match and draw.

Liverpool v West Brom: Liverpool win. Should be charged up after midweek victory in Europe. Waiting for Torres to come to full fitness.

Sunderland v Man City: This would be a good test for Man City. After a professional mid week victory in Europe their focus would now shift to Premier League. This is what they have to come to terms with to be contenders for life in BIG FOUR. Can Mancini overcome internal bickering and instability. He has done it till now. Last week it was Liverpool. My predictions: Result would be decided by How Man City back 4 counter the threat of Bent, Cambell. Odds in Man City favor.

Aston Villa v Everton: Villa look unsettled and unstable. Everton win or draw.

Stars: Rodwell / Arteta (Everton), Bent (Sunderland), Tevez / Milner (Man City), Gerrard / Babel (Liverpool), Jaaskelainen / Gardner / Elmander (Bolton),  Larsson (Birmingham),  Scholes / Vidic / Berbatov (ManU), Carroll (Toonies), Bale / Crouch (Tottenham), Old Pillars of Chelsea & Malouda, Walcott / Chamakh / Diaby (Arsenal), Robinson / Diouf / Dunn (Blackburn), Zamora / Dempsey (Fulham)

Have beer, Break glasses, Get high only on soccer… Enjoy Gameweek 3 J

EPL Week2 warm up thoughts

Arsenal Vs Blackpool: Arsenal win 'Expect Chamakh to shine and youngsters to shine in 1st home game against newly promoted. There can be surprises'

Birmingham Vs Blackburn Rovers: Birmingham win 'Should be a very close one. Would Blackburn take their chances well ?'

Everton Vs Wolverhampton Wanderers: Everton win 'Expect Everton to bounce back. Can they shrug of new season rustiness. They still have a quality squad'

Stoke City Vs Tottenham Hotspur: Draw or Stoke City win 'Have totties recovered from midweek CL game and can they deal with physical and aerial threat of stoke. Its looking tough'

West Bromwich Albion Vs Sunderland: Draw 'Sunderland looks shaky but have real quality going forward. WBA can get a result here if don’t make defending errors they did against Chelsea'

Wigan Athletic Vs Chelsea: Chelsea win 'Chelsea are looking too strong. Expect Wigan to be more resilient and a silent first half'

Newcastle United Vs Aston Villa: Draw 'They are going to miss Milner in the midfield'

Fulham Vs Manchester United: Manchester United win 'Manu please overcome Craven Cottage sickness'

Manchester City Vs Liverpool: Manchester City win 'Expect Man City to come all guns blazing. Liverpool would need to quick on the counter'

EPL Week1

Premier league 2010-11, a 6 horse race with Chelsea and Manchester United leading the pack in front of Arsenal, Liverpool, Tottenham and Man City gets kick started on Aug 14, 2010.

And what a start we got !!!. No major upsets with Manchester United (3-0) and Chelsea (6-0) cruising against Newcastle and West Brom. Chelsea started where they left last year and Manchester United old war horses Gingerman and Flying Welsh made sure ManU keeps up.

130 million pound and a draw against Tottenham (away) for Manchester City. Mancini would need to gel his troops sooner. With super mario and milner set to join the ranks an interesting question is in front of Mancini, can you combine numbers from all top teams, assemble them in one and win the title. Time will tell !!!

Credit to Hodgson to give some stability to Liverpool boat and were slightly unlucky in their openers against Arsenal sans Fabregas and Van Persie ofcourse.

Highlite of the week has to be Blackpool newly promoted to EPL drubbing of Wigan.

Lastly, to summarize the week Blackburn with Big Sam looked impressive playing some real hard football :P.

Players of the week :

GK: Hart (Man City)
Defense: Baptiste (Blackpool), Jones (BlackburnRovers), Ashley Cole (Chelsea)
Midfielders: Malouda / Lampard (Chelsea), Milner (Man City), Scholes (Man U), Larsson (Birmingham)
Forward: Drogba (Chelsea), Berbatov (ManU), Harewood (Blackpool)

Transfers:
We have to talk about ManCity before we talk about others and their five star signing of Super Mario, Milner, Boateng, Toure and Silva at only 130 million pound. If they get a good run going they are going to be handful this year.
Traditional Big4: Chelsea, ManU, Arsenal and Liverpool all doing astute business in the summer with Chirachito catching most headlines for his display in the world cup and pre season.

Outside new promoted blackpool have been busy and signing new faces. They are going to create a few upsets.

Aston Villa got a double knock with Martin O Neil and Milner leaving. They reacted strongly last season to Barry's departure. Would they react the same way this season or is it a case to too many blows ?

Season thoughts:
1/2 : Manchester United and Chelsea
(to be decided between Chelsea old legs and Red Devils midfield)
As a Red Devil fan hoping MANU can get Van Der Vaart.

3/4/5/6: This is tight. Mancini: Can you combine your squad? Rednapp: Can you handle CL or stick to EPL ? Wenger and Hodgson: Pray to god "no injuries". Hodgson: Try to prevent big players from going and hope club saga is sorted out soon.
Hunch: Arsenal and Manchester City

Relegation: Wigan ..

Surprise package: Birmingham and Blackburn and Blackpool (3B)
